our journey so far

ian and davidWith a love of good coffee and a passion for the African adventure two young(ish) men (one taller than the other) set out with a hope that they could benefit real people in what the “1st world” often calls the “3rd world”. They also hoped to be able to drink lots of great coffee and call it 'work'!

We only drink great-tasting coffee, and we only want to drink fair trade ethical coffee but finding this combination was proving harder and harder since we moved back to the UK. We didn't believe we had to compromise taste or our ethics to enjoy gourmet coffee so we started searching.

Through a series of wonderful circumstances we eventually came across the ideas and contacts that led to Ethical Addictions. To be able to directly buy gourmet coffee from the farmers in Africa is always a goal and being able to supply our growing number of friends with phenomenal coffee is a great delight. Thus we get to move towards the best of both worlds.

We love this quote by Kofi:

"We have to choose between a global market driven only by calculation of short-term profit, and one which has a human face. Between a world which condemns a quarter of the human race to starvation and squalor, and one which offers everyone at least a chance of prosperity, in a healthy environment. Between a selfish free-for-all in which we ignore the fate of the losers, and a future in which the strong and successful accept their responsibilities, showing vision and leadership."
(Kofi Annan, UN Secretary General).

We ain’t there yet but we live in the direction of our dreams.
